This blog has served as a discussion venue for privacy issues. Comments are now in the thousands. Because of that though, it is now very difficult to find the main points of any thread. Very few readers are willing to take the time necessary to read through a topic.
To provide a quicker source of information, I am happy to announce the opening of a new blog. With the participation of Doug Capra, better known up to now as MER, we are opening a new blog which will be organized to feature articles, with comments being secondary.
The new blog is:
Patient Modesty and Privacy Concerns
Thirty one articles are now posted, the last two are on children and modesty by Holly Goodwin and teaching medical students modesty by Dr. Maurice Bernstein.
I also have a new article on KevinMD blog concerning men's reluctance to visit doctors.

Non Medical Modesty
Clearly there is a relationship between how we deal with modesty in non medical situations and our need for it in medical situations. This thread is intended to draw contrasts and parallels between them to further our understanding of the subject.

The Mass Media's Treatment of Patient Privacy
Most of the complaints center on how men are portrayed as patients in the health care system, often very disrespectfully. The media clearly play a role in this, though it's hard to be sure how much they cause vs. how much is a response to society's already formed attitudes.

Women's Privacy & Modesty Concerns
All comments on women's issues are welcome here. The majority of this thread has concerned the usefulness of cervical cancer screening. I think most of us have learned some surprising facts about cervical cancer.

Gender Preferences in Healthcare
What are they? Do men and women differ? This topic pervades the blog, but I'd like to consolidate it under one heading. This topic will concentrate solely on patient preferences and not with how they affect employment of health care workers like the prior thread. A summary article can be found on my companion blog. The summary article has also been picked for publication on KevinMD, a widely read medical blog.

Group Physicals
Do they humiliate young men? This topic includes school physicals and military induction physicals. There's been enough discussion of this to merit its own thread.
Some deleted comments are re-listed on Dec 16, 2008.
This thread is now FULL. Please continue on Part 2.
A summary article on sports physicals is now available on my companion blog.

Add Your Personal Story of Privacy Violations
These can be violations of confidential information such as providers or employees talking to others about your medical findings or violations of procedures or examinations, such as examining room doors left open. Violations specifically covered under HIPAA of information transfers can be listed below or see link under HIPAA.
Stories which in my estimation are likely to be fictional will not be posted.
An article outlining steps to take to complain about violations is here.
